Prince Harry in a ‘world of trouble’

Prince Harry may be in a “world of trouble” after reports suggest he may have lied about his past drug use on his US visa application.

This week, the royal found himself at the centre of a lawsuit from conservative thinktank the Heritage Foundation against the Department of Homeland Security, in which part of the lawsuit claims Harry’s past drug use was not appropriately vetted by officials before it was approved ahead of his move to California with American wife Meghan Markle in 2020.

The Duke of Sussex spoke openly about using drugs in his 2023 memoir Spare, and this transparency could have potentially barred him from entering the US as applicants are required to disclose such information.

Former US President and current Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump then issued a warning to the royal that “appropriate action” would be taken if he lied to authorities before making the move stateside.

“We’ll have to see if they know something about the drugs, and if he lied they’ll have to take appropriate action,” Trump said in an interview with Britain’s GB News, while hinting that if he is re-elected president later this year, Harry may face deportation from the US.

Debriefing on the Trump interview, GB News host Patrick Christys says Harry could be in serious trouble if it was revealed he received preferential treatment in his application.

“He’s potentially in a world of trouble actually, isn’t he really, because if he has lied about his drug use on his visa form then frankly he will have to be treated like everybody else,” Christys told Sky News host Andrew Bolt.

“I would quite like to see these visa forms. I wouldn’t be surprised if it turns out he filled it out in crayon and Meghan stuck it on the fridge for a couple of weeks before they submitted it.”

Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, stepped down as full-time members of the royal family in 2020 before relocating permanently to the former actress’ home state of California later that year.

They now live on a plush $21 million Montecito estate in Santa Barbara with their two children, Prince Archie, 4, and Princess Lilibet, 2.

Last month on Good Morning America, Harry revealed that while he loves living in the US, he has no plans to become a citizen in the near future.

“It’s amazing. I love every single day,” he said of life in America. “The American citizenship is a thought that has crossed my mind, but certainly is not something that is a high priority for me right now.”
