King Charles delights locals in Scottish town as he visits grocery store in tartan kilt
It’s not every day a king makes a stop at a grocery store so it was a big deal when King Charles did just that in a Scottish town – and dressed to impress the locals.

King Charles wore a traditional tartan kilt as he took in the sights of a town for the third day of Scotland’s annual Royal Week celebration.
Charles, 76, delighted locals that had lined up to see him as he took to the streets of Campbeltown closely followed by security.
The monarch visited local stores including NC McGeachy butchers and the local farmers market where he watched sheep being sheared.
Charles also took pleasure in tasting a 25-year-old Glen Scotia Single Malt during a Campbeltown Town Hall reception.
The king apparently likes whisky produced using peat and was overheard asking Iain McAlister, master distiller and manager of Glen Scotia’s distillery in Campbeltown: “Is it a peaty one?” and was told it was not.
The celebration, also known as Holyrood Week, kicked off Tuesday in Edinburgh with an official welcome during the Ceremony of the Keys at the Palace of Holyroodhouse.
The occasion celebrates Scottish culture, achievement and community.
As part of the tradition, The Lord Provost Robert Aldridge presents the Keys to the City of Edinburgh to the monarch, who then returns them for safekeeping.
There were pipes and drums and Charles was given the Royal Salute and Guard of Honour as he inspected the The Royal Company of Archers, The King’s Bodyguard for Scotland.
Their Majesties then hosted a garden party at Holyroodhouse for 8000 guests, alongside the Princess Royal and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence.
The Royal Garden Party, a tradition that dates back to the reign of King George V and Queen Mary, celebrates those who have made positive contributions to Scottish communities.
Guests from the Highlands to the Borders enjoyed tea, sandwiches and the famous Palace cake while mingling in the historic gardens.
MEGHAN’S WINE SELLS OUT WITHIN HOURS
Meghan Markle’s new wine is another runaway success for her lifestyle brand As Ever with the rose flying off her website to sell out within hours of its launch.
The 2023 Napa Valley Rose is priced at $A45 a bottle and can be purchased in lots of three for $A135, half cases for $A242 or full cases for $A450.
The wine was launched on July 1 which happens to be not only Princess Diana’s 64th birthday but, as noted in Prince Harry’s memoir Spare, the anniversary of when the happy couple first began talking to one another.
A spokesperson for the Duchess told People the rose was just the start and Meghan planned to next roll out a collection of wines including a Méthode Champenoise Napa Valley sparkling wine in the near future.
MEGHAN AND HARRY ‘AT THE HEART’ OF KING’S FUNERAL PLANS
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are heavily featured in funeral plans being drawn up for King Charles, according to a report.
While the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been totally estranged from the Windsor clan in recent years, it seems as though the ongoing royal rift isn’t impacting the king’s funeral plans.
His Majesty has included not only his younger son, 40, and the Suits star, 43, “at the heart” of his plans, but he has factored their two California-based children, Archie and Lilibet, into the mix, the Telegraph reports.
Whenever the time comes, the monarch, 76, has reportedly made it clear to officials that the Spare author must take his rightful place at the centre of his family.
And while there’s no suggestion that the king’s reign will not continue for years to come, planning for such major milestones typically starts way in advance.
Palace officials hold planning meetings with senior representatives from the police, the military and the church to ensure that everything is in place when the fateful day arrives.
As for the Sussexes, the outlet reports that both Harry and Markle are being included in the entire plan – from the initial announcement to the procession and burial.
Harry is expected to walk side-by-side with his brother, who will then be king, at the forefront of the procession from Westminster Abbey through the streets of London.
The Sussexes will also be invited to take part in the family vigil during the lying-in-state period at Westminster Hall.
What’s more, arrangements have reportedly been made for Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4, to attend the funeral service with their parents.
While the majority of state funerals – codenamed Operation Menai Bridge for Charles – typically remain traditional, each monarch has the option to make several changes to the plans.
For Charles, insiders believe that the service will showcase his lifelong dedication to the environment and use sustainable elements where possible.
It’s also said that the period of royal mourning will be reduced to reflect the period of national mourning.
The Post has reached out to Buckingham Palace and reps for the Sussexes for comment.
