Meghan Markle’s bizarre move as dad, Thomas, ‘fights for life’
Meghan Markle has raised eyebrows over her response to her estranged father Thomas undergoing emergency leg amputation surgery in the Philippines.
Meghan Markle has continued to post on social media after her father, Thomas, was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery, which resulted in his leg being amputated.
The Duchess of Sussex – who has been estranged from her father since 2018 – has remained silent on her father’s condition but continued to be active online, posting outtakes from her Netflix Christmas special as well as clips from husband, Prince Harry’s well-received appearance alongside Stephen Colbert on The Late Show.
As her father was “fighting for his life”, according to her half-brother Thomas Markle Jr, Meghan also released a new range of chocolates, laced with her signature raspberry jam and flower sprinkles, which sell for $A18 bucks a pop via her lifestyle brand As ever.
Thomas Markle underwent surgery in the Philippines to amputate his leg after a blood clot cut off circulation and turned the lower limb and foot black. He is currently “stable” in intensive care.
Meghan and Harry have reportedly not been in touch with the family since Markle fell ill.
Thomas Jr told the Daily Mail the family have heard nothing from the Sussexes since his dad was admitted to hospital.
“I would implore Meghan and Harry to reach out to Dad,” he said.
The concerned son added how his father is “heavily medicated” and “hooked up to all kinds of machines”.
Thomas Jr, 59, had said previously: “I took dad to a hospital close to our home and they did various scans and the doctors said his life was in imminent danger.”
He described how the ambulance rushed his dad to hospital.
He added: “My only wish is that Meghan shows my father some compassion. He is literally fighting for his life.”
Thomas Jr later said doctors had told him his dad is “stable” and that their family is “grateful” for the support they’ve received “particularly from Britain”.
His sister Samantha added how their father has a “long journey of recovery ahead”.
Thomas has suffered with ill health, including a stroke, in recent years and had been living in Mexico for the past 10 years before relocating to the Philippines in January.
He has been estranged from Meghan since her wedding to Prince Harry.
Thomas suffered two heart attacks on the eve of the big day in 2018 and was unable to walk his daughter down the aisle.
It came after he had posed for paparazzi pictures ahead of the wedding.
Meghan then cut him off after he put the phone down during a heated row with Harry while recovering in hospital.
Concerns were also raised for 81-year-old Thomas just a few months ago when his daughter Samantha claimed he was stuck on the 19th floor of his Philippines flat after a deadly earthquake.
However, Markle later declared he was “fine” and urged people not to worry.
