Queen Mary of Denmark hasn’t forgotten her roots.
The Tasmania-born royal has delighted her Aussie fans with her special choice of Christmas decor within Amalienborg, Frederik VIII’s Palace in Copenhagen.
In a picture of a Christmas tree shared on the royals’ Instagram account, a kangaroo ornament can be seen hanging from one of its branches – a clear nod to Mary’s heritage.
“The Christmas spirit is spreading in the Royal Family’s home in Amalienborg,” the caption on the post read.
Another unique feature of the festive tree was a small ornament of David Bowie, appearing as his iconic Ziggy Stardust.
Just last month, Mary subtly sent a firm message to royal watchers with her choice of accessory for a civilian portrait.
The Danish queen wore a stunning cream boat-neck dress as she posed for the images, which featured a solo shot as well as another alongside her husband, King Frederik.
Amid all the regal glamour, it was Mary’s delicate necklace that got people talking, as it featured a tiny “F”- a nod to her husband of 20 years.
It’s been an undeniably life-changing year for Mary, who ascended the throne alongside Frederik in January after the former monarch, Queen Margrethe, unexpectedly abdicated in her New Year’s Eve speech.
Just a few months later, in May, Mary admitted in an interview with a local news outlet to feeling “overwhelmed” at times.
“It is very new and there are many changes and decisions,” she said of the pair becoming the country’s rulers, before gushing over the moment her husband had been proclaimed King in January.
“I stood with the children and when you stepped out onto the balcony towards your fate, it was a moment that moved me incredibly much.
“We could hear and feel it, even if we couldn’t see it. It was a beautiful moment. I was both very happy and very proud.”
