‘Oh my god’: Olympia Valance’s reaction to sister Holly’s right-wing views

Olympia Valance was quick to distance herself from sister Holly when her sibling’s right-wing views were raised in a radio interview today.

Australian actress Olympia Valance has spoken in a new interview about her older sister Holly’s progression from soap star, to pop star – to now, right-wing pundit.

Holly – known as Holly Candy since marrying billionaire property mogul Nick Candy in 2012 – largely lives a quiet life out of the spotlight nowadays, but has made headlines in recent years for showing up in some unexpected places.

In 2022, she met with former US President Donald Trump at his Mar-A-Lago estate, posing for a photo one Twitter wag called “one of the strangest pics I’ve seen in a long time”.

In February this year, she attended a political event for former UK Prime Minister Liz Truss, telling GB News she identifies as right-wing: “I would say that everyone starts off as a leftie, then wakes up at some point, after you start either making money, working, trying to run a business, trying to buy a home, and then you realise what crap ideas they all are,” she told the outlet.

And the next month, she voiced her political views in further detail on a podcast, labelling climate activist Gretha Thunberg a “demonic little gremlin” and complaining that “the woke stuff’s really gone big in Australia”.

Speaking to HIT WA’s Allan & Carly this morning to spruik her appearance on Nine’s reality series The Summit, Holly’s younger sister Olympia was quick to distance herself from her sibling.

Saying that Holly returned to Australia “rarely,” she told the hosts emphatically: “My sister and I have very, very different political views.”

Olympia said her sister’s recent controversial podcast appearance, in which she railed against “woke culture” and called Trump “fabulous”, had been a source of discomfort for her.

“It was like, ‘Oh my God’ when she said all that stuff. I’m like: ‘Oh God! Everyone’s going to think that that’s what I think!’ And I don’t,” she said.

“She has the right to say the things that she wants to say … but yes, that’s not my opinion on anything.”

And no, she will not be performing ‘Kiss Kiss’ at a Westfield near you.

The hosts then tried their luck by suggesting Olympia’s older sister should return to our shores sometime soon to perform her 2002 number one single Kiss Kiss “at some shopping centre somewhere.”

Olympia’s response suggests that Holly, whose husband has an estimated net worth of $2 billion, won’t be resurrecting her short-lived pop career any time soon.

“Oh my God, hilarious. I can guarantee you that that will never happen, but it’s a funny thought,” she said, explaining that her sister rarely visits her home country, having lived out of Australia for more than two decades now.

“She kind of comes to Australia for Christmases sometimes and family events. But other than that, she’s based in the UK,” she revealed.
