Mark Wahlberg has VIP access to all the hottest bars and clubs in Hollywood and beyond. But one Sydney establishment almost denied the A-lister entry over one surprising item of clothing.

The 52-year-old was up for a round of golf at the exclusive Elanora Country Club on the Northern Beaches of Sydney when the colour of his socks apparently did not meet the club’s dress regulations, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Wahlberg has been playing plenty of golf since arriving in Sydney last month to film his new movie, Play Dirty – he was also spotted playing golf at a course in La Perouse.

But the star hit a snag on his latest outing when he opted to wear black socks instead of white, which breached Elanora’s dress code.

“We have dress standards,” general manager Cathy Neagle told the publication. “They do include white socks.”

Wahlberg was more than happy to change into a pair of white socks supplied to him by the club’s store, however later he couldn’t help but throw some shade at the club in an Instagram video while wearing his athleisure brand Municipal from head to toe.

“Socks not allowed on every golf course in Australia, believe it or not,” he said on the platform while attempting an Aussie accent.

“Some course requires you to wear white socks. These are gym socks, man! What?!”

The actor has proven to be quite an attraction since he arrived on our shores. The devout Catholic was even mobbed when attending church services at both St Mary Magdalene Church in Rose Bay and St Mary’s Cathedral in the City.

“Happy Sunday everybody, stay prayed up, God Bless,” he said in a later Instagram post filmed outside the cathedral.

Wahlberg’s new film is expected to see him based in the Harbour City for the next few months.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Robert Downey Jr – who won a Best Supporting Oscar for Oppenheimer earlier this week – was originally on board to play the lead in the production for Amazon, with Tony Shalhoub and Dermot Mulroney also attached to the project.

Mulroney was also in Australia last year shooting the romantic comedy Anyone But You, which used Sydney as it’s stunning backdrop throughout the film. The rom-com also starred Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney.
