Lewis Capaldi makes shock Aussie confession live on air

The Scottish singer has quietly blended in with the Aussie lifestyle while on tour – and there’s one thing he’s seriously considering while here.

Lewis Capaldi admits he wants to live in Australia

Lewis Capaldi loves Australia so much he wants to live here.

No, not in an Oprah “I love you guys so much I’m going to do all the things Hugh Jackman said to do and post about it while I’m here so you can think I want to live here” kind of way. He is actually seriously thinking of investing in property Down Under.

The Scottish singer, who is currently touring Australia, stopped by the KIIS FM studios while in Sydney for a chat with Jackie ‘O’ Henderson, where he opened up about his loose plans.

“I love it here. I think I’m going to stay for Christmas,” the 29-year-old told the breakfast show host.

Referring to that classic moment when all singers seem to tell the country they’re in that they “love it so much”, the singer insisted it’s not a comment he just throws around in each country he visits.

“I definitely do not say it everywhere. I won’t say it, or I don’t say it. But, you know, I love it.

“Our whole touring crew has been enamoured by it down here, so I’ve been looking at buying houses and stuff.”

The Someone You Loved chart topper also revealed that he has been quietly enjoying his time Down Under, taking a casual dip at Sydney’s Clovelly beach and also getting up close and personal with one of our many furry mascots.

The one photo he has posted from his time in Australia includes a single shot of him holding a wombat on a leash.

“Good dug,” he simply captioned the shot shared on Instagram.

The moment was captured at Australia Zoo, and of course, Robert Irwin dashed to the comments to thank the star for his visit.

“Thanks for coming by you legend. Enjoy Aus!” he wrote.

During his time in Oz, Capaldi has sparked a sweet trend that has left him feeling a little divided – his gigs have fast become a destination for wedding proposals.

At his opening Australian show at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre, two lovers in the mosh became engaged during Love The Hell Out Of You, prompting the star to heckle them for “taking the shine off me, and it’s my concert!”

At his next gig at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena, another couple stole the spotlight with their romantic mid-show engagement.

When the crowd erupted in cheers and the cameras panned to the couple instead of him on stage, Capaldi jokingly insisted: “That’s enough, put the cameras back on me! How dare you come here and propose! This is my show.”

While he acknowledged the sweet trend, he also pointed out that not everyone would share the same enthusiasm for them.

“There’s a lot of single, sad people at my shows as well, so you just f**king showed them what true love is and now almost 20,000 people hate you,” he joked.

Being unlucky in love is something Capaldi can relate well to. During the same chat with Jackie O, the singer, known for his love ballads, pointed out the irony of being unable to hold down a relationship himself and ditching dating apps.

“It’s just not really my thing. I’m not as active on them as I once was. I’m nature’s dating app, just walking around,” he said.

“Plus, I don’t really want to be in a relationship with anyone.

“I’m busy. Busy boy. I couldn’t give myself wholly to someone. I can’t be responsible.”
