John Stamos’ ex-wife ‘blindsided’ by brutal memoir remarks

John Stamos’ ex-wife wasn’t warned about the memoir’s release, says her husband.

John Stamos’ ex-wife, actress Rebecca Romijn, has been left blindsided by the release of the actor’s new tell-all book.

The actor and the X-Men star split up in 2004 after five years of marriage, before finalising their divorce in 2005.

Stamos talks openly about his marriage to Romijn in his new memoir, where he shares that he “hated her” and calls her “the devil”.

Following the shocking remarks hitting headlines, Romijn’s husband, Jerry O’Connell, has broken his silence.

O’Connell made an appearance on Access Hollywood on Monday and confessed Hoover that he and his wife found out about the book after it was already released.

“We don’t get any warning,’ he said. ‘We find out just like anyone else,” he admitted.

When questioned about his wife’s feelings towards Stamos’ remarks, O’Connell added that he preferred to leave that up to her to share herself.

“It’s not really my place to say,” he said in response. “I would rather my wife talk about that. My wife and I are getting along so well today.”

Stamos speaks brutally about Romijn in his memoir.

“In my mind back then, she was the Devil, and I just hated her,” wrote the Full House actor.

“I couldn’t believe how much I hated her, and it ruined my life.” He continues to explain that back then, “one of the steps in AA, the fourth step, is you lay out all your grievances, everything that people did to you. And then I said, ‘Oh, she did this, she did that, blah, blah, she did blah, blah.’ And then my sponsor goes, ‘Now what part did you play in that?’ And I go, like, ‘None.’”

However, Stamos eventually went on to admit that he may have played a part in their break-up.

Stamos, who hasn’t seem his ex since they divorced, added that he came to realise Romijn was “was trying to make it work because she cared”.

Meanwhile, in May 2022, Romijn told The Talkviewers that their “terrible” and “very sad” break-up felt like “a failure.”

She said at the time: “It’s a very hard decision to come to when you decide to end a marriage. It was heartbreaking. … I have a lot of fond memories of him. A lot of things about him that I miss.”
