CONNECTICUT authorities have ruled the death of Mia Farrow’s 27-year-old son, Thaddeus Wilk Farrow, a suicide, saying he shot himself in the torso.

State police said Thaddeus Farrow was found in his vehicle on Wednesday afternoon in Roxbury with a life-threatening injury and was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

The state medical examiner’s office determined the cause of death overnight after an autopsy.

Farrow wrote in a Twitter post that her family is devastated by Thaddeus’ death.

“We’re devastated by the loss of Thaddeus, our beloved son and brother. He was a wonderful, courageous person who overcame so much hardship in his short life. We miss him. Representatives for the actress did not return messages.

State police say Thaddeus Farrow lived in Torrington, about a 39-kilometre drive from Roxbury. Public records show he had lived at his mother’s property in nearby Bridgewater until a few years ago.

In 1994, Farrow adopted Thaddeus Farrow, who contracted polio in an orphanage in Kolkata, India, and was paralysed from the waist down. He was initially called Gabriel, but like many of Farrow’s children, changed his name.

The adoption came just after her split from director Woody Allen, who had been carrying on an affair with another of Farrow’s adopted children, Soon-Yi.

Tragically, Thaddeus is not the first child Farrow has had to bury.

In 2000, Tam Farrow had a heart condition and died of heart failure at the age of 19 and after a long illness.

Then on Christmas Day 2008, Lark Previn died at the age of 35. Her cause of death was not given but reports from the time suggest she had been living with AIDS, which she had unwittingly passed on to her two daughters, and died of AIDS-related pneumonia.
