Sometimes rich celebrities buy their children costly presents and have to defend it; that is just life in the fast lane.
Kyle Richards, known for starring on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and being Paris Hilton’s aunt, has been forced to defend her daughter Portia’s gift of a Porsche for her 16th birthday.
Not just any Porsche, the family went all out and purchased her one that retails for around $130,000. The car costs more than most people’s annual salaries.
Richards wasn’t the one who made the big purchase. Her husband, Mauricio Umansky, gave the lavish gift, but according to Page Six, Richards said he “works hard” and her daughter was a “good driver.”
The paparazzi confronted Richards, 55, about such a luxury purchase for a teenager, but she stood by her decision.
“She’s a straight-A student. She’s a good kid,” she explained.
When she was asked if her 16-year-old deserved a six-figure vehicle, she replied, “I think so.”
The gift is even being discussed because Richard’s other daughter, Sophia, posted on social media the moment Portia was given the gift.
In the clip that has amassed over 100,000 likes and over a million views, Portia is shocked and delighted by the luxury car, and when she sees it in the driveway, she’s in disbelief.
“Are you kidding me?” She yelps and covers her mouth in shock.
The excited teen breaks down in tears, and her parents hug her as she accepts her new car from them.
People online have praised the teenager’s genuinely thankful reaction to being given such a pricey present from her parents.
“I love that even though they are rich and have had everything their entire lives, they are still so grateful and kind ladies,” one commented.
Someone else said, “Good parenting! Her tears and gratitude say it all,” and one wrote that she was the perfect example of a “grateful” child.
Many people online said it was the perfect present for the 16-year-old and defended the parents for splashing out.
“A Porsche for Portia,” one wrote.
“It’s your money. Do what you want!” someone said.
“They have the luxury to do it; don’t know why other people are getting their panties in a bunch,” another argued.
Others weren’t so sold on the idea of a teenager owning such an expensive car without having to work for it herself.
“No 16-year-old should have a $100k Porsche,” one wrote.
“Just because you can doesn’t mean you should,” another remarked.
“No 16-year-old deserves a Porsche,” someone else reasoned.
“Awe and my family can’t afford groceries,” another admitted.
