Singer Meghan Trainor has apologised for her recent controversial comments about teachers, saying she was “careless” with her remarks and should be more careful with her words.

The US singer, who was recently based in Australia as a judge on the Australian Idol reboot, addressed the controversy in a TikTok video after user @GalsGotMoxie – who is a teacher – called her out for saying “f**k teachers” on her podcast, Workin’ On It.

On April 19, in a discussion about parenthood and the school shootings in Nashville last month, Trainor felt triggered by guest, influencer Trisha Paytas, who also experienced trauma after being bullied in school.

Trainor, 29, went on to claim that she and her husband, Spy Kids actor Daryl Sabara, were both bullied by their former educators and therefore would be homeschooling their kids in the future.

“Everyone on TikTok is like, ‘This is what it’s like having kids in America. I have a bulletproof backpack.’ I was like, f**k all that … F**k teachers, dude,” Meghan – who shares son Riley, 2, with Sabara and is currently pregnant with their second child – told Paytas.

Now, after her words were highlighted by @GalsGotMoxie on TikTok, Trainor was forced to explain and apologise for her comments.

“Teachers of TikTok and teachers of the world, I recently said ‘F teachers’ on the podcast and it’s not how I feel,” Trainor said in the clip. “I was fired up because we were talking about how sending your kid to school here in America is so horrific.”

The All About That Bass singer was sorry for appearing to generalise with her comment, but that was not her intention.

“I did not mean [to say that about] all teachers. I love teachers, I fight for teachers. I think they have the hardest job and they are the most underpaid,” she said. “They are the most unappreciated when they literally raise all of us. I don’t want to make excuses, I just want to [say] I am so sorry.”

“I am so sorry to any teachers I made feel bad and I will remind myself that my words definitely could have a consequence and I will be more careful.”
