Carrie Bickmore cops savage public roasting

Carrie’s radio co-host Tommy Little led the charge as comedians fronted up to land brutal jokes at her expense - but she got her revenge.

Australian TV and radio’s golden girl Carrie Bickmore copped a savage public roasting on stage in Melbourne earlier this week, enduring brutal cracks about everything from her appearance to her love life.

The Hit Network’s Carrie & Tommy kicked off the Melbourne International Comedy Festival on Tuesday night with The Roast of Carrie Bickmore, with comics and TV personalities including Steve Price, Dr Chris Brown and Dave Hughes all on hand to deliver laughs at Bickmore’s expense.

Here are some of the best jokes from the night:

Little announced that Carrie “looks better and better. She’s just getting hotter and hotter, and if you want to know what’s her secret: cosmetic surgery. Want to know what Carrie would look like without all the work done? Bev Killick,” he said, gesturing to comedian Killick, who was also on stage for the roast.

“Carrie has a butler, she’s got four nannies, she owns acreage in the city … she’s doing very well,” he continued.

“Look, I’m not saying Carrie is a bad person, but if it was a different time period, she would definitely own slaves.”

Little also referenced a running joke Bickmore had made on their radio show, revealing that she’s had raunchy dreams about a number of powerful men in the country – among them Eddie McGuire.

He revealed he’d reached out to McGuire for comment and received this message in return:

“So, Eddie said, ‘People may not be aware that Carrie’s father, Brian Bickmore, was a board member of Southern Cross Austereo, owners of Triple M, and (he was) the Chief Financial Officer some years back. Part of his remit was to negotiate contracts with me. So, I believe, I am the only person to have two generations of Bickmores dreaming about how to screw me.’”

Carrie took the roasting like a champ.

Little said he also reached out to former PM Malcolm Turnbull to tell him Bickmore had had raunchy dreams about him too (although Carrie denied this on-stage). Turnbull’s response when Little asked him to comment?

“’I’m not really sure what to say. I can’t think of anything that wouldn’t be awkward, so I don’t want to offend. I admire Carrie but I’d rather pass on this one,’” Little recounted.

”Which makes me think he thought the offer was actually there to (sleep with) Carrie.”

Bickmore then had her time behind the mic to take her revenge.

“That was a lot! Thank you, Tommy, for letting me come first … your ex-girlfriends wished you had afforded them the same opportunity,” she quipped.

She asked the audience to be kind to those present for whom comedy is not their strength – “like me, Steve Price, Dr Chris Brown and Hughesy.”

Dr. Chris copped another spray too, as Bickmore told the crowd: “As we all know he used to be the co-host of I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here and he was irreplaceable … well, apart from the fact that they replaced him with a 15-year-old who had never done TV before … and their ratings went up.”

Bickmore’s roast follows last year’s hilarious roast of Tommy Little at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival – an event that saw Bickmore lay into her co-host about everything from his recent ADHD diagnosis to his penchant for dating younger women.

Highlights from this year’s roast will play over the coming days on Carrie and Tommy on the Hit Network from 3-6pm weekdays, also on LiSTNR.
