Why Sam Frost refused to watch latest Bachelorette season: ‘I was mad’

AUSTRALIA’s first-ever Bachelorette, Sam Frost, has hit out at producers of the franchise over their treatment of this year’s contestants.

The 2DayFM radio host, who’s been listed among Who magazine’s ‘Most Intriguing People of 2016’, says she was angry at the way the girls were handled in the latest season of The Bachelor, starring Richie Strahan.

So much so it even turned her off watching the second season of the show that made her famous.

“I felt the show was emotionally traumatic for [runner-up] Nikki [Gogan] and that’s why I didn’t really watch The Bachelorette,” Frost, 27, told the magazine.

“If the people behind the scenes knew how Nikki was feeling, and knew it would be really difficult for her to get over, surely they have a responsibility to let Richie know?”

She added: “Looking after their [contestants] mental wellbeing is the most important thing.”

It’s a sensitive topic for the former accounts manager, who has found herself the target of online trolls since stepping into the spotlight on The Bachelor season two in 2013.

At one stage, many feared the bullies had gotten the better of her, with Frost cryptically tweeting in July: “To the fake accounts heavily trolling me online & into my personal life. If you wanted to break me. Congratulations you have won. #broken.”

After lashing out at weekly women’s magazines last month, the star again deleted her social media accounts, claiming she needed a “digital detox.”

Now, she’s explained to Who what brought her back online.

“I’ve only got Instagram back because it’s got a brilliant comments moderator. But I’m absolutely still learning how to navigate that world,” Frost said.

“You’re still human and that’s what people forget. I understand it may be part and parcel but, in general, people should stop being nasty.”

Despite going through such a “horrendous” period of time, Frost says she’s back on track, thanks to the help of a psychologist and her support group.

“I can’t even relate to the person I was this time last year. It was a black, sad period and I’ve come so far,” she revealed.

“I still have my moments, but the majority of the time is more positive than negative, which means I’m on the right track.”
