HILLARY Clinton has condemned the “outrageous” misogyny faced by Prime Minister Julia Gillard, as speculation grows the former Secretary of State could run for president in 2016.

In an advance copy of Mrs Clinton’s new book, Hard Choices, obtained by news.com.au, Clinton reflects on her answer to a question from a female student at a Korean university.

“I responded that I would guess many leaders choose to ignore the fact that they’re dealing with a woman when they’re dealing with me,” she writes.

“But I try not to let them get away with that.”

“Nonetheless, it’s an unfortunate reality that women in public life still face an unfair double standard.

“Even leaders like former Prime Minister Julia Gillard of Australia have faced outrageous sexism, which shouldn’t be tolerated in any country.”

Ms Gillard’s 2012 misogyny speech on the floor of the House of Representatives went viral both in Australia and around the world.

When she stepped down last year Ms Gillard said sexism explained some things, but not everything, about her prime ministership.

The former prime minister’s spokesman was unavailable to comment.
