Fans discover wild clue in Taylor Swift’s new album title

Taylor Swift has dropped major career news at the Grammys, with the singer’s fans pointing out her major swipe at ex Joe Alwyn.

Taylor Swift makes bombshell announcement

Taylor Swift’s fans were expecting the singer to announce the re-release of her Reputation album at the Grammys Monday – instead, the music megastar sensationally revealed she was dropping an entirely new one.

The 34-year-old pop star, accepting the award for ‘Best pop vocal album’ at music’s night of nights in LA, said her 11th studio album The Tortured Poets Department will be released April 19.

Moments later, claims surfaced the album’s title was a swipe at Swift’s ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn, whom she dated for six years until their split was made public in April last year.

Back in May 2022, when the pair were still together, Alwyn told British GQ he was in a WhatsApp group chat with fellow actors Paul Mescal and Andrew Scott, which was titled ‘The Tortured Man Club’.

That news story went viral on X amid news of Swift’s new music, with many pointing out the conspicuously similar titles:

Swift earlier told fans onstage of her upcoming album: “I want to say thank you to the fans by … Telling you a secret that I’ve been keeping from you for the last two years, which is that my brand new album comes out April 19th. I’m gonna go and post the cover right now backstage. Thank you, I love you.”

Keeping her promise, the 13-time Grammy winner shared a photo of the album cover – a black-and-white portrait showing her lying in bed.

“All’s fair in love and poetry …” she wrote.

It was completely unexpected news from Swift at this point, after she released her last album Midnights just over a year ago, and has since been embarking on the global Eras Tour, which is set to kick off in Australia in two weeks.

She’s also been busy flying around the US to support her NFL star boyfriend Travis Kelce, as well as completing rerecordings of her previous albums, with 2017’s Reputation due next.

Unsurprisingly, Swift’s name began trending globally on X, as well as the words ‘new album’.

Given her somewhat frenzied fanbase, Swift has made a habit of using big platforms to make exciting career news.

At the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards, she announced the impending release of Midnights, of which she’s just now scooping up awards for.

It ended up being record-breaking night for Swift, who also won Album of the Year.

She became the only artist in history to have won the prestigious award four times.
