Australian brothers Theo and Nathan Saidden have landed a new stand-alone series on Netflix.

The popular YouTube stars are set to bring their beloved Superwog characters back for a new show titled Son of a Donkey, which will be produced for the streamer.

The Sydney comedic duo, who started their online channel back in 2008 and eventually saw their following climb to 3.48 million subscribers, previously starred in two seasons of Superwog for the ABC, which last aired in 2021.

The series was picked up by Netflix, where it proved popular among local and international audiences. It was given the title Superbro outside of Australia due to the term ‘wog’ being deemed offensive in certain cultures.

Theo and Nathan will write, direct and produce six episodes of Son of a Donkey, which is also produced by Princess Pictures.

“In Son of a Donkey, we meet Theo just as he moves out of his home to claim his independence — until he’s faced with the harsh realities of adulthood,” a synopsis reads.

“From driving fines and daddy issues to internet scams and a lot of therapy, Theo and his best friend Johnny get up to their usual antics as they come to terms with what’s most important: family.”

Production has already started in Melbourne, with the series supported by VicScreen via the Victorian Screen Incentive.

“We’re so happy to announce our new show with Netflix. This will be the wildest show we’ve ever made,” the brothers said in a statement.

“There’s new characters, bigger ideas, more action, more craziness. It’s just so exciting to be working with a service that puts us on screens all around the world.”

Princess Pictures’ Executive Producer Mike Cowap said the production company was thrilled to have supported Theo and Nathan’s burgeoning careers, after also producing the ABC series.

“We’ve been proud to support Theo and Nathan on their evolution from short online comedy to half-hour episodes and now to the most ambitious season-spanning epic story to date,” Cowap said.

“All shot through with their larger-than-life characters and trademark irreverent, slapstick humour. They’ve already earned a passionate fan base outside of Australia, but with their first Netflix series we’re excited to see that grow exponentially.”
