AN eight-part original television series made for Amazon Prime will start filming in Tasmania in November.

The comedy is set in a fictional town called Deadloch, which doubles as the series’ name.

It is written by Kate McCartney and Kate McLennan – better known as The Kates, famed for their beloved ABC series The Katering Show and Get Krack!n – and co-produced by Guesswork Television, which produced Australian comedy series Rosehaven.

Arts Minister Elise Archer said Tasmania would benefit from the series, which would showcase the state to Amazon Prime video members in 240 countries and territories worldwide.

“Our investment in Tasmania’s screen industry through productions like Rosehaven has given the Deadloch producers the confidence that our state is able to host such a major international project,” she said.

“This opportunity will support our ongoing commitment to build the Tasmanian screen industry’s capacity, further ensuring local creatives will continue to intrigue, engage and entertain audiences around the world.”

Deadloch is set in a once-sleepy seaside hamlet that is left reeling when a local man turns up dead on the beach, resulting in two female detectives – a stern local detective and a brash out-of-town cop – being assigned to solve the case.

It is one of seven Australian-filmed commissions from Amazon Prime.
