Abbie Chatfield has shared a confronting photo of herself when she was six weeks pregnant, taken the day before she had an abortion.

The 27-year-old Australian reality star turned radio host penned an emotional post about the US Supreme Court’s landmark ruling to overturn Roe v Wade, stripping the rights of millions of women to access legal abortions.

Chatfield said she “cried herself to sleep” after hearing the news on Saturday, as she revealed her own decision to have an abortion aged 23.

“This is me the day before I had my abortion, at the earliest stage, you can’t realistically tell that you’re even pregnant. Thankfully, I had access to safe abortion literally the day after finding out that I was pregnant,” Chatfield wrote alongside the photo.

“I remember not sleeping the night before the procedure, worried that I had missed the cut off date, and I would have to carry child to term.”

The former Bachelor star added that she simply “did not want a child”, and that was “reason enough.”

“It wasn’t an easy decision but it was the right decision,” she said.

“There are endless reasons to get an abortion, and some lawmakers in the US are even denying abortions to save the parent’s life, arguing that we are just vessels for potential life, not a form of life that already exists.

“Anyone who is for this overturning is not pro life, they are anti choice. People will die because of this ruling. Without a doubt.”

The world has reacted in fury over Roe v Wade being overturned, which had provided the constitutional right to abortions up until foetal viability since 1973.

At least eight right-leaning states have imposed immediate bans on abortion, with a similar number to follow suit in coming weeks.

Australian actor Liam McIntyre today issued a devastating apology to his unborn daughter, writing on Twitter, “Because of choices I made, she’s going to be American. I was excited to announce this news. Now I feel a need to apologize (sic) to her and she hasn’t even been born.”

Over in the US, pop star Taylor Swift led the high profile reaction on social media saying she was “absolutely terrified”, as she shared a lengthy statement from former US First Lady Michelle Obama, who described her “heartbreak” over the decision.

Swift wrote, “After so many decades of people fighting for women’s rights to their own bodies, today’s decision has stripped us of that.”

Oscar winning actress Halle Berry dubbed the result “bulls***” and a “war on women”, with fellow actress Elizabeth Banks’ expert response summing up the news in a simple sentence: “Everybody gets a gun but nobody gets bodily autonomy.”

The court voted 6-3, along party lines, on Saturday, in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organisation, which involved Mississippi’s attempt to ban abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy.

“Abortion presents a profound moral question,” Justice Samuel Alito wrote in his majority opinion. “The Constitution does not confer a right to abortion.”

Justice Alito added: “The Constitution does not prohibit the citizens of each State from regulating or prohibiting abortion. Roe and Casey arrogated that authority. We now overrule those decisions and return that authority to the people and their elected representatives.”
