PIZZA and pasta will be devoured by the plateful as Italian food and culture are celebrated for the seventh annual Festa Italia on Sunday.

Italian cars, coffee, music and food and wine will be showcased on the streets of North Hobart with organisers hoping for a crowd of 15,000.

“It showcases Italian food and entertainment and it’s a really fun day, not to be missed,” Festa Italia secretary Carmel Brazendale said.

Delicacies on offer include gelati, Italian beers, wines and soft drinks, sausages, fish, meatballs, zeppole (Italian-style doughnuts), and pizze fritte (dough fritters). Spaghetti and watermelon competitions are expected to attract big crowds. Comedy chef Mama Rosa will hold cooking demonstrations.

Performance group Viva Italia from Melbourne and Tony Voglino are among entertainers.

Festa Italia is at the Australian Italian Club in Federal St on Sunday from 11am to 5pm. Admission is free.
