HUNDREDS of yoga and wellness enthusiasts in Hobart have been told their “urban retreat” is no longer in action.
Alceme, an upmarket yoga studio and wellness centre, has been placed under administration.
Clients have been advised via email and the company’s website that all classes have been cancelled.
“We wish to advise that due to unforeseen circumstances all classes have been suspended until further notice,” the Alceme website says .
The impeccably styled centre, in Victoria St in central Hobart, is a vast four storeys of yoga and dance studios and a wellness spa.
The building is also home to a health food café, called The Kitchen, but that is run independently of Alchemy and is still open for business.
According to its website: “Alceme is your local ashram. Your second home. … Alceme is a mecca for wellbeing.”
The retreat opened a wellness spa earlier this year, and a café last June. The studio opened earlier last year.
It took more than a year to restore the historic building, which was originally built for the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, to its current high standard.
Although pages of yoga classes are still listed on the Alceme facebook site, they all have “cancelled” inserted beside them.
It is understood Alceme has several hundred clients, and employed many of Hobart’s top yoga teachers.
The website advises people with enquiries to contact Rodgers Reidy, an insolvency company.
The insolvency specialists have not returned calls from the Mercury, but the Australian Securities and Investments Commission has notified creditors of the appointment of administrators.
The first meeting of creditors of Alceme International Pty Ltd is scheduled for Friday March 8 in Hobart.
The purpose of the creditors’ meeting is to discuss whether to appoint a committee of inspection and whether to maintain the current administrator.
