THE Wrest Point tower turned green on Thursday night as the venue prepares to welcome back staff and patrons from noon on Friday.
The Sandy Bay venue will reopen for the first time in three months after the easing of coronavirus restrictions.
The tower has been lit blue since March when Federal Group was forced to shut almost all its businesses due to COVID-19 rules.
Federal Group said the blue represented hope and solidarity, and the green represents renewal and revival.
The tower will display both blue and green on Friday night, and will stay green until the Tasmanian borders reopen.
“Our team has been waiting three months to open the doors and welcome our guests back,” Federal Group managing director Greg Farrell said.
“The iconic Wrest Point tower will transition to green, which represents renewal and revival, and marks the next phase in this journey.
“The last three months has been the most challenging period in the history of our company and has had an enormous impact on our team and the community.
“However, in many ways the real challenge lays ahead for Tasmania’s economy, and for tourism and hospitality businesses, including ours.
“It will be a long time before things are back to normal.”
In addition to Wrest Point, Federal Group will also reopen the Country Club casino in Launceston, and gaming rooms in its 12 pubs, with about 1050 Federal Group employees returning to work.
