Prime Minister makes awkward blunder during official German ceremony

Anthony Albanese has missed his cue and stuffed up in front of thousands of people while visiting Germany.

Anthony Albanese has been caught up in an awkward mishap while reviewing a military honour guard welcoming him to Germany.

The Prime Minister alongside German Chancellor Olaf Scholz made their way down a red carpet while inspecting the troops in Berlin on Monday.

At one point while the pair inspected the troops, Chancellor Scholz turned to face the guard that but Mr Albanese continued on, unaware that he needed to stop.

The German Chancellor attempted to get Mr Albanese to stop on cue.

But the Prime Minister continued on down the red carpet.

He eventually turned to face the soldier.

Before the Prime Minister could wander off too far, Chancellor Scholz caught his attention and the pair turned to the saluting soldier.

The small mishap was quickly swept aside amid the flurry of announcements the two leaders unveiled during Mr Albanese’s time in Germany.

Australia will join the ‘Climate Club’ alliance, a group of countries committed to pursuing net zero emissions by 2050.

“We’re very pleased to join the climate club because we are ambitious and we also see that this isn’t just the right thing to do by the environment, but this is also the right thing to do by jobs and by our economy,” Mr Albanese told reporters in Berlin.

“One thing we can do is to co-operate and learn off each other because you can’t address climate change as just a national issue. It has to be by definition, a global response.”

Mr Albanese also announced Australia would provide an E-7A Wedgetail early warning aircraft to the German Army for six months alongside up to 100 Australian crew.

The Prime Minister visited Germany before heading to Lithuania on Tuesday for a NATO summit, which will focus on the conflict in Ukraine.
