Woman reveals why Gen Z don't want to work

A young woman has claimed Gen Zs and Millennials don’t want to work because they’re too busy living their lives while the older generations don’t have their priorities straight.

Taking to TikTok, Demi Kotsoris, said she is “tired” of older people criticising young people over their lack of work ethic.

“Older generations are so confused about why we don’t want to work hard anymore or prioritise our careers,” she said in the clip.

“We know how short life is now, and it didn’t have to come from a life changing, life altering experience like it did for those before us.”

Recalling conversations she’d had with older people, Demi said they only lived to the fullest after someone close to them passed away.

“Now, we have access to that information,” she said.

“We also had this global panini [referring to the pandemic] that happened so we view life way differently than we ever have before.

“Even for a lot of us if we got a workplace that is purpose driven and they’ve got great values and they’re doing amazing work.

“We still want to travel and do other stuff with my life.”

Demi confessed the work concept was “confusing” for the younger generation.

“We’ve got all this privilege and the work we’re doing is great, but ‘why am I still depressed, why do I still hate my life, why do I still not want to work?’

“It’s because we don’t place the same value that was drilled into us before on that and so we shouldn’t.

“The access to information has made us smarter.”

Demi’s video attracted more than 16,000 views, with some users disagreeing with her comments.

“Wait till you don’t have money to feed yourself or look after any dependent. It’s about maturity and sacrifice.” one person wrote.

“You are the epitome of everything wrong with your generation. Good luck,” another said.

“This is incorrect, it’s laziness, no smarter,” a third wrote.

“If the new generation is so much smarter why are they mostly obese shorting ur [sic] life expectancy. Lazy.”

“Millennials won’t work hard but will be the first ones to complain how they cannot afford to buy a house,” a fourth person said.

“All young people know is how to complain. You should get real jobs instead of spending your time on TikTok,” a fifth wrote.

Other commenters agreed with Demi’s views and shared their own thoughts.

“Work was a completely different deal for boomers,” one person said.

“It went like: Buy a cheap house, you’ll get easy promotions, respect at work, and a golden handshake at 55.”

“Some of my coworkers get mad because I work part time,” another said.

“I tell them spend time with their family and live life, the company will find another worker once you retire anyway.”

“People were never meant to work like our parents did. I love purposeful work but consistent breaks avoid burnout,” a third person said.
