More than 100 Optus call centre jobs to be made redundant

Call centre positions in one capital city will be made redundant at one of Australia’s major telcos, as it looks to “simplify” its business.

New scheme launched to tackle call back scams

Optus will be making call centre staff in Adelaide redundant in an effort to “simplify” their business.

In a statement, the nation’s second-largest telco network confirmed some employees will be shown the door.

“Optus continually evaluates our organisational structure to ensure it is the right one for meeting our customers’ needs,” an Optus spokesperson said.

“We have recently undertaken a review and taken steps to simplify our business while still investing in those areas we know matter to our customers.

“As part of this review, we are realigning teams which will impact some roles across our business.

“This has been a challenging decision to make but necessary to strengthen our business.”

Although Optus declined to provide an exact figure, Nine News reports more than 100 call centre staff will be made redundant.

The Optus spokesperson said some of those affected will be redeployed within the company.

Although some of its call centre load is handled overseas, Optus maintains it’s committed to keeping an “onshore footprint” within Australia.
