The Islington Hotel is offering up hundreds of dollars in discounts to locals

DISCOUNTED rooms, food and beverage credits, art tours, dessert platters and a new four-course menu showcasing Tasmania’s best produce are among the offerings being presented by a luxury Hobart hotel to woo local visitors.

The Islington Hotel in Davey St has recently reopened to guests following a coronavirus shutdown, with general manager Nick Wright hopeful that a string of special offers will appeal to local travellers as borders remain closed.

He said in addition to discounted room rates and a $100 food and beverage credit for two-night stays, a new four-course menu for $99 highlighted some of Tasmania’s best produce and chef Glen Tilly was venturing out of the kitchen to talk to diners about their food and where it comes from.

As part of the Winter Warmer offer, guest are also treated to free continental breakfast, a daily in-room treats plate plus hot toddies or Irish coffees to enjoy in front of the fire with house-made marshmallows.

The hotel has also converted to a zero-waste kitchen in a bid to minimise its carbon footprint.

Prospective guests are being invited to book an appointment to tour the adults-only venue, to view the hotel’s impressive collection of art which includes Picasso, Warhol, Whiteley and Matisse.

Those who book a stay can sit down and enjoy complimentary coffee and house-made cookies.

Mr Wright said there had been a number of inquiries from Tasmanians wanting to hire the entire 11-room venue for post-COVID family get-togethers or milestone birthday celebrations.

Set within beautiful sprawling gardens, he said the boutique hotel was positioned as “a special enclave where people can escape the world’’.
