Tasmanian independent chain Hill Street Grocer abandons plans for Lindisfarne shop

A greater Hobart site earmarked for a future Hill Street Grocer looks set to remain a car repair centre — perhaps with a pizza van in the car park.

POPULAR Tasmanian food retailer Hill Street Grocer has pulled the pin on one of its proposed stores for greater Hobart.

The independent grocers had previously announced plans to open a new store in Lindisfarne where the Lindisfarne Service Centre and Tyrepower is currently located on the East Derwent Highway.

Hill Street Grocer marketing and communications manager Emma Munnings told the Mercury that plans for the site had been abandoned.

“There were a number of issues around parking and entry and egress,” she said.

Hill St will open its tenth store, currently under construction in Sandy Bay, later in the year.

The latest store is being built on Churchill Ave, directly opposite an entrance to the University of Tasmania on the site of the old UniPrint building.

A development application has been lodged with the Clarence City Council for the Lindisfarne Service Centre site for a mobile food truck.

Nick Sportelli of Pep Pizza has lodged the application for a food van in the car park serving pizza on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.

Pep Pizza currently has stores in Kingston Beach and Austins Ferry plus its roving trailer in Kettering.
