THE State Government has called for tenders for the detailed design and construction of the new four-lane Hobart Airport interchange to replace the existing roundabout.
The works include removal of the existing roundabout and construction of a four-lane overpass, or flyover, with the realigned Holyman Ave, to and from the airport, and Kennedy Drive, to and from Cambridge, passing over the Tasman Highway.

The flyover would allow highway traffic below to flow towards Hobart or Sorell.
“Motorists can look forward to a new, free-flowing interchange to improve safety and reduce the peak-time traffic congestion on this busy section of the Tasman Highway,” Infrastructure Minister Jeremy Rockliff said.
Construction is expected to start in early 2020 and be completed by mid-2022. The federal and state governments have committed $30 million to the project.
The Government has also announced an independent safety audit of the Mornington roundabout is underway.
The audit will focus on the design, demand and driver behaviour at the roundabout, and assess the current road marking and signage, general layout and pedestrian access.
