Want coffee but don’t want to get out into the cold? A new drive through coffee spot has you covered.
For those brisk Southern Tasmanian winter mornings Goodwill Coffee is now open next to Willie Smith’s Apple Shed allowing commuters or visitors to stay in the warmth of their car while waiting for their coffee.
Co-founder Sarah Macdonald said she and her business partners were all coffee drinkers and saw a niche in the market for commuters and tourists visiting the Huon Valley and Southern Tasmania.
From 5.30am to 10am Monday to Friday the cafe container is now open serving coffee as well as old school jaffles along with other snacks and of course, fresh apples.
In the third week of trading Mrs MacDonald said from 6-8am were the container’s busiest times, and the drive-in concept was already proving popular.
“It was interesting, the day we had the snow last week was our busiest day of trade so far,” she said.
“Heading into the winter months it does get pretty chilly so it’s an attractive option.”
The aim is for everyone to have their orders within three to four minutes to keep customers moving.
But it’s not just good coffee and great customer service brewing at Goodwill Coffee, there is community spirit too.
“It’s important to us to give back and we want to support local groups that don’t necessarily get a lot of funding,” Mrs MacDonald said.
$1 from every ‘meal duo’ — a toasted sandwich and a hot drink — is being donated to a chosen charity each month.
For the month of May proceeds are going to the Huonville PCYC and Mrs MacDonald was encouraging other community groups to apply for the program.
More details about the program can be found on Goodwill Coffees social media channels.
