Expanding investment and wealth management business Shaw and Partners has made a major recruitment coup – luring three experienced players from a renowned stock broking firm to its Brisbane office.
Bell Potter Securities’ senior wealth advisers Dwight Phillips, Tim Harbort and Craig Clark and their assistant Tahlia Gill have moved to Shaw and Partners’ office on the 28th floor at 111 Eagle St, bringing more than 50 years experience to the firm which is owned by global private banking group EFG International.
Shaw and Partners state manager – Queensland Glen Gannon says they started having conversations with the trio a few months ago.
“We’re growing nationally as well as locally and we spoke to the guys and realised that they were aligned with our values so we bought them in,” he says.
“We’ve been growing nationally and recruited 35 advisers nationally last year. We’re still looking to grow the business we have about 25 people here in Queensland and we have enough space to grow.”
Big win
Blight Rayner Architecture in association with Wild Studio have punched well above their weight scoring the gong for a small $3m Dalby project in the Built Outcomes category for the Australian Urban Design Awards 2025.
They were named one of the three winners in the category for Mary’s Place which is a homage to the Commercial Hotel in Dalby which burnt down in 2018.
The hotel was the heartbeat of Dalby and its publican for over 50 years, Mary Barry, was one of Dalby’s most beloved citizens, famous for her line “Happy days Luv’ whenever she served a beer.
The design integrates many abstract references to the pub and Mary, its theme based on notions of recovery and rebirth. It even has an abstract replica of Mary’s bar where people can and reminisce.
The small project beat many of the bigger entrants from down south like the Sydney Metro City Stations.
Renowned Blight Rayner director Michael Rayner says it was unusual for such a relatively small project to be so honoured.
“Even better that it was built by a local builder. And it’s fantastic that our state’s regional councils receive recognition for what they do for their communities,” he says.
Revved up
Work started on the $27m renovation of BMW Brisbane’s expansive Fortitude Valley premises to enhance the luxury customer experience with state-of-the-art technology designed to future-proof the dealership.
The four-week demolition has started and builder Alder will complete the renovation April next year, off the back of its successful delivery of Westside BMW’s $2.5m dealership refurbishment earlier this year.
Designed to align with the brand’s Retail. Next philosophy, the refurbished 800 Ann St dealership will sport a renewed design and floorplan which they say will present a more immersive and engaging retail environment with a seamless blend of physical and digital touchpoints, multifunctional spaces, enhanced digital integration, and elevated personalisation and convenience.
Sime Motors Australia managing director Wayne Hoggard says the refurbishment of its Ann St premises strengthens Brisbane BMW’s position as a destination dealership in the heart of the city while supporting business growth with flexible and future-proof infrastructure.
New Car Sales, Service Department and Parts & Accessories have relocated while Used Car Sales will remain at the current dealership location.
