MANAGERS have assured punters beers will flow again at the historic Cascade Brewhouse site once major renovations are completed for a “special” new restaurant.

Cascade marketing, events and tourism manager Emma Gilligan said the on site homestead has been undergoing transformations for a restaurant, bar and function space for the past month.

“We wanted to highlight the beautiful original features of the homestead, making the space welcoming and homely the way it was originally intended,” she said.

Ms Gilligan said the revamp drew inspiration from the historic surrounds, boasting comfortable lounges, original Tasmanian oak floorboards, fire places and wainscoting.

She said both the space and the menu would keep customers cosy in the chilly months.

“Although Cascade is very well known for their beers, we have some beautiful ciders on site so we’ll be warming them up to create some nice mulled cider,” Ms Gilligan said.

“The menu will also reflect winter with warm hearty meals, plus you can enjoy the fire nook which overlooks the gardens.

Restaurant manager Katie Breen said she hoped Tasmanians would enjoy the “hidden gem” ten minutes from the city as COVID-19 restrictions ease.

“I’m looking forward to getting the locals back in, showing them the stunning gardens (and) the amazing food,” Ms Breen said.

“The revitalisation of the restaurant and visitor centre and a focus on the local community comes at the perfect time for Tasmanians to ‘make themselves at home’,” he said.

“I very much look forward to enjoying that view alongside a refreshing ale at the end of my next kunanyi bike ride.

“Or maybe I’ll skip the bike ride,” he laughed.

The original Cascade building and surrounding gardens from the 1830s has operated as a home, a World War Two air-raid shelter and a deer park.

Ms Gilligan said the renovations were the site’s first upgrades in 15 years.

She said the Cascade Brewhouse will reopen to eager patrons in late July.

Cascade management would not disclose the project cost, but said the construction period would have totalled about two months once works were complete.
