Digital property company REA Group has tapped senior New Corp executive Andrew Cramer to become chief financial officer as the company’s new leadership takes shape.

The move comes after incumbent Janelle Hopkins has decided to retire as chief financial officer, with a handover to take place in February.

Ms Hopkins will shift into a non-executive career, after holding senior posts, including the last seven years at REA as CFO, where she played a pivotal role in growing the company.

Newly-appointed REA chief executive Cameron McIntyre noted Ms Hopkins’ contribution.

“Even in my short time at REA, it’s clear to me the significant impact Janelle has made on the business. As CFO, she has ensured our financial strength and disciplined capital management while helping drive a period of transformative growth,” he said. “Her decision to embark on a non-executive career represents an exciting new opportunity, and we wish her every success in the years ahead.”

Mr Cramer joins the business from News Corp in New York, where he is the deputy CFO. In this role, he has overseen News Corp’s commercial finance activities and operations globally, including corporate development, treasury and business partnering.

He has also played an integral role in the transformation of that portfolio since joining the company in 2019, focusing on investments in the company’s core growth pillars, including digital real estate services.

Prior to his tenure at News Corp, Cramer spent over a decade at Macquarie and Citi, where he helped build, and ultimately lead, Citi’s investment banking coverage business for technology, media and telecommunications across Australia and New Zealand. While in this role at Citi, he was an adviser to REA.

“He brings extensive global experience, strong financial expertise and a strategic perspective that will be invaluable as we continue to grow and deliver for our customers, shareholders and team. Andrew has a strong collaborative style, and I look forward to working with him as part of our executive leadership team,” Mr McIntyre said.

News Corp, publisher of The Australian, holds a majority stake in REA.

REA earlier this month said the residential property market remains healthy, with strong buyer demand nationally and continued house price growth. When delivering his first quarterly result, Mr McIntyre flagged that the company’s focus continued to be offering the best value in the market despite the arrival of US group CoStar.
