Global energy developer UPC Renewables has gathered more than 12 years of wind data, along with conducting environmental and financial modelling for a 10,000-hectare site on Robbins Island, which is expected to deliver up to 1000MW of energy.
UPC spokesman Anton Rohner said: “Once built, it will complement the Prime Minister’s recently announced strategy for Tasmanian wind and hydro systems to act as southeast Australia’s renewable energy battery and is close to the Australian Energy Market Operator’s proposed entry point for a second interconnector between Tasmania and Victoria.”
The proposal is yet to receive planning approval and comes two days after a 49-turbine farm was confirmed for central Tasmania.
