WITH international travel off the cards for the forseeable future, a council initiative is instead encouraging travel through Hobart’s tasty cuisines.
The Hobart City Council’s Passport to Hobart program will run for four weeks, with diners encouraged to try out one of the 49 different food and beverage businesses involved in order to earn vouchers.
Dana Eating House owner Mikaela Mulvaney said the Passport to Hobart program was an awesome idea.
“I think that Tasmanians were lucky but also we did the right thing, so initiatives like this and encouraging people to get out and about, visit their favourites, their locals, maybe somewhere new is an awesome idea,” she said.
Mulvaney alongside co-owners Dan and Ollie Lancaster opened the restaurant on August 1, just as the state’s COVID-19 restrictions began to ease.
Dan Lancaster said it was a big leap opening during a pandemic.
“We’d been wanting to do this for a long time so we thought, ‘why not give it a crack?’,” he said.
“The community has been awesome in helping us stay afloat.”
Acting Lord Mayor Helen Burnett said there was a real cross-section of Hobart’s food and beverage sector represented by the businesses involved.
“Now that the hustle and bustle of the festive season is behind us, this program provides some extra incentive to visit your favourite venue, or to explore new venues that you haven’t been to before.”
The Stamp Me app is free to download and operates much like a loyalty card.
By spending $20 at a participating venue, you earn a stamp — five stamps earn a $20 voucher.
The first 3500 people to download the app will receive a $10 welcome voucher.
