One of Tassie’s favourite foodie events will go ahead this year – but there will be COVID-safe rules in place, like pre-booked tickets and allocated sittings. DATES + HOW TO BOOK >>

THE return of Hobart’s Street Eats @ Franko on 27 November will be a COVID-safe paid, pre-booked ticketed event.

Event owner Madi Seeber-Peattie said in order to implement a COVID-Safe Plan, requires additional infrastructure and human resources.

“Our event team has grown from 5 to 30,” she said.

Entry is $5.50. No gate sales.

She said the entrance fee is an investment into the employment of 30 additional people.

Mrs Madi Seeber-Peattie said that the execution of an event during COVID-19 is a “huge challenge, but the directives and Public Health measures around event operations have been designed to keep us all safe, we take this responsibility very seriously.”

“COVID has decimated the events industry and as such we are extremely fortunate that we can even operate in some capacity when so many larger scale events can’t.” she said.

“This is in order to comply with physical distancing measures, density limits and the collection of patron details for the purposes of contact tracing.”

The event will showcase Tasmania’s musicians and performers.

She said the COVID friendly program has dropped a decibel or two with the line-up taking a more lo-fi theme in order to ensure physical distancing and as sad as it is, so that we can manage the ‘no dancing’ measure.

There will be two music zones – jazz and soul at the Chessboard, and a DJ spinning relaxed beats on the stage.

In terms of eats and drinks patrons can still expect the same 100 per cent Tasmanian street food.

She said the events favourite producers are back on board after the season was cut short earlier this year.

Highlights around the fountain include – Festival Martabak; The Wood Fiery Redhead American BBQ; Chefaholic; Deep End Farm; Formosa Bites squidlipops; Wild Thyme Seafood BBQ and Sweet Street hosting Yeastie Beastie Doughnuts and the Crepe Garden.

Titin Wahyuni from Festival Martabok and Stephen Lunn from Chefaholic cooking school and catering agree it’s a celebration the event can run.

“While we know that these changes are significant and will take us all a bit to get used to, it is so important to ensure the principles of COVID are maintained and, we know that together as a community, we can make it happen,” she said.

Tickets are $5.50 plus booking fee for adults, kids under 16 are free but still need to be booked in online.

For tickets go to www.streeteatsfranko.com.au with a limited number of tickets available for each event. The event from 4pm to 9pm runs every Friday at Franklin Square until the end of March 2021.
