HOBART’S cable car proponent is poised to lodge all the extra details on the controversial project sought by the Hobart City Council earlier this year.
Mt Wellington Cableway Company chair Chris Oldfield told the Mercury the company was not far off providing answers to the 35 additional questions asked by council officers.
The company lodged its long-awaited plans on June 12 and the council soon after came back to them asking for more information on issues such as traffic management and the impact on Aboriginal heritage sites.
“Most of them were fairly straightforward, but some of them required advice from third parties and we can’t always demand they give that to us straight away,” Mr Oldfield said.
“We’re making sure we put a thorough answer in — we decided it was better to answer everything at once rather than piecemeal.”
TALKING POINT: CABLE CAR PLANS TREAD LIGHTLY ON SUMMIT
Council staff has 42 days to determine the outcome of the development application.
However, the deadline was put on hold on the day extra details were sought, and it does not restart until the council is satisfied it has received the information it sought.
Once all the extra information requests are dealt with, the application will be publicly advertised for between 14 and 28 days.
An assessment report and recommendation will then be presented to the city planning committee and then to the full council for a vote.
Mr Oldfield said in July the company would also then make a voluntary referral for federal environmental assessment once its development application has council approval.
