A NEW development for Cape Bruny Lighthouse Station will progress to lease and licence negotiations under the State Government’s Expressions of Interest process.
Environment, Parks and Heritage Minister Peter Gutwein last night said the proposal by Bruny Island Safaris would protect and repurpose three existing heritage buildings, providing visitor accommodation, a caretaker’s cottage and visitor centre/cafe.
SHINING A LIGHT ON BRUNY LANDMARK
“The development will enhance visitor experiences with interpretative signs, tours and provision of all-terrain vehicles to provide a free shuttle service from the booking office to the lighthouse,” he said.
“The business is expected to employ 10 full-time equivalent staff, while injecting $180,000 directly into the local economy during development and initial operations.”
Proponent Craig Parsey, son of one of Bruny’s last lighthouse keepers, already runs regular tours to the Cape Bruny Lighthouse.
Under the proposal, he would take on the responsibility of managing the lighthouse.
