Qantas’ new double status credit, double points offer to help Australians get more travel deals

Qantas frequent flyers can now double their status credits or frequent flyer points across the airline’s entire regional, domestic and international network. See how it works.

‘So important’: Qantas CEO ‘proud’ of Jetstar’s travel affordability

Exclusive: Qantas frequent flyers can now double their status credits or points balance for the next seven days across the airline’s entire regional, domestic and international network.

The airline’s double status credit or double points offer will also allow Qantas members to also earn double points on Qantas hotel and holiday bookings made during the same period.

Double status credits help frequent flyers climb the Qantas status tiers faster (Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Platinum One), unlocking travel benefits like access to more than 650 Qantas and partner lounges, priority check-in and boarding, and additional baggage allowances.

Double Qantas points can be used to book reward seats, request flight upgrades, book hotel stays or buy items on the Qantas Marketplace or through Ticketek.

Qantas Loyalty CEO Andrew Glance said the offer was one of the most anticipated of the year.

“Hundreds of thousands of members benefited from this offer last year, helping members to attain or retain their frequent flyer status or boost their points balance,” he said.

“We’re seeing record numbers of members using points for flights, especially to destinations like Tokyo, Singapore, Queenstown, and Bali. Over 13,000 classic reward seats are booked on average every single day and this offer is a key part of ensuring that momentum continues.”

Qantas Gold frequent flyer Andy Hutton has flown 146 times using frequent flyer points.

He said he would be booking between 12 and 15 domestic and international flights this year for personal and work trips.

“At the start of the year is when I plan my whole year of bookings so I am waiting for these types of promotions,” Mr Hutton said.

To maximise the offer, Mr Hutton, 40, from Sydney, said he would pay for some flights in cash, and others using Qantas points.

“I’d focus on domestic and short haul international flights using monetary means and then I’d be looking at purchasing my classic reward bookings using my points because I’m a points club member,” he said.

Mr Hutton recommended travellers use the online Qantas calculator to work out how many points and status credits they could get.

Finder travel expert Angus Kidman said the campaign was an attractive offer for Qantas frequent flyers, but less exciting for others.

“Double points is definitely attractive, especially if you live somewhere where Qantas is the only airline available,” he said.

“Qantas almost never has the cheapest fares on the market, so anything that adds extra value is always welcome.

“With that said, it’s still worth shopping around, especially for international trips, and considering if the points are worth paying the Qantas premium.

“Here’s an example. A return sale economy trip to London would earn 43,400 Qantas points during this promotion. I’d value those at $868. So if you can score a flight that’s $900 cheaper with another airline, the double points might not be worth your time.”

Forty per cent of Aussies plan to travel domestically in 2025, with most only catching a couple of flights a year, according to Finder research.

Mr Kidman said the best way to build points totals when not flying was to take advantage of credit card sign-up deals, where people can earn 100,000 points or more in a single hit.

Converting Everyday Rewards from Woolworths into Qantas Points was also a smart strategy, he said.

“You need a lot of status credits to earn Gold or Platinum with Qantas – a single trip is not going to make a difference there, even with double credits,” Mr Kidman said.

“Bottom line? If you’re not already tracking your status credits in a spreadsheet, take the double points – and spend them on flights, not a coffee machine, to get the best value from them.

“If you are trying to rank up status credits, booking business flights gives you better bang for buck.

Members can register for the new offer via the Qantas app until March 12 until March 18 (until 11.59pm) and make unlimited bookings for travel between March 19 2025 and February 24, 2026.
