THE Glenorchy City Council has asked Mona for more information on its plans for a 172-room five-star hotel near its Berriedale museum.
The council, Mona and TasWater appeared at the Resource Mangement and Planning Appeals Tribunal on Monday after Glenorchy requested clarification on some information within the development application, which was lodged in December.
Glenorchy Mayor Kristie Johnston said the development application only “went live” last month after all the relevant fees were paid. The council will make initial assessments before it is released for public comment.
The parties agreed to go to mediation to work through the council’s request.
Ald Johnston said she was not concerned by the ongoing process.
“It’s just us requesting information from them about their application,” she said.
The hotel will likely be named Motown and cost about $400 million. Mona has requested the State Government act as guarantor on the costs.

It will include a theatre, spa centre, outdoor concert stage and library.
Mona founder David Walsh wrote on the museum’s website it would resemble “a shopping trolley that looks a bit like an inverted suspension bridge”.
”The horizontal distance from the land to the point is 53 metres,” the website said.
“It’s not modest.”
Motown could open by 2024.
