Police say officers fired three shots at the man, aged in his 30s, as he became aggressive towards them on Edmondstone St, South Brisbane about 3pm on Tuesday.

Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham said police had been called to a business at Fish Lane, South Brisbane, after reports a man had been inside the roof cavity.

The man had allegedly left he scene before police arrived.

Supt Massingham said police were later called to Edmondstone St after reports a man matching the same description had been seen walking on the road outside The Greek Club threatening to pull his pants down about 3pm.

“The police van has pulled up adjacent to that male person, that male person has attempted to enter the rear door of the police van,” he said.

Police allege a male constable approached the man after getting out of the driver's seat of the police van.

The man then allegedly rushed at the officer in an “aggressive” manner.

“He was armed with a 30cm metal rod with a handle attached,” Supt Massingham said.

“The officers attempted to subdue him using a taser, that taser was ineffective and fell to the ground where it still remains on the footpath.

“The male person fell to the ground, CPR and first aid was immediately commenced on that person but on my instruction he was immediately pronounced deceased at the scene not long after.”

It’s understood he was shot multiple times in the chest.
