Man charged over alleged sexual abuse of women he met online

The 23-year-old man is facing 64 charges after allegedly abusing nine women he met online since 2016.

A man’s been charged with 64 offences after he allegedly sexually abused nine women he met through internet dating websites.

Western Australia Police said the 23-year-old committed the abuse against the women he met online between 2016 and this year.

His extensive list of alleged offences includes 12 counts of aggravated sexual penetration without consent, nine counts of endanger health, life, or safety, six counts of assault, and five of aggravated stalking.

The 23-year-old is alleged to have sexually abused at least nine women he met through online dating profiles, but police believe there are more alleged victims.

A police search of his home in the southern Perth suburb of Treeby found electronic storage devices containing images and videos of further alleged victims.

One mobile phone contained more than 232,000 images and 9300 videos.

WA Police Commissioner Col Blanch on Wednesday told ABC radio he believed there were more alleged victims out there.

“We’ve found a significant amount of images and videos on devices, and the special crime team is currently working through those images to see if we can identify more victims,” he said.

“So it might turn out to be much larger than what it currently is.

“There are evil men out there on social media platforms looking for people to attack. That is a reality.

“People should be able to date and do it freely and happily, but there are people in this world who are out there to do the wrong thing.”

The 23-year-old is due in Perth Magistrates Court on Thursday.
