Toowoomba gears up for mountain bike master plan

Plans for world-class mountain bike trails in Toowoomba that could host Olympic events are a step closer to reality after a $3.3 million funding announcement.

The funding for the Great Divide Mountain Bike Destination project would put the regionin the frame to stage anOlympic event for the 2032 Brisbane Games.

For years, the plan to develop new and improved mountain bike trails in Jubilee and Redwood parks has been a dream for the Toowoomba Mountain Bike Club.

Groom MP Garth Hamilton said the project would help put the region on the map as an adventure tourism destination.

This will establish Toowoomba as a mountain biking mecca and it will not just service our local mountain bike riders but will bring in people from right across the east coast.

Currently, the Toowoomba Escarpment has a 28km network of mountain bike trails.

The Great Divide project would upgrade existing trails and develop a further 68.4km over 24 new trails.

Local schools will be encouraged to get involved and pick up the sport through an interschool sport competition.
