How to buy medical cannabis in Toowoomba

Two Toowoomba businessmen have opened the city’s first dedicated medical cannabis shop and business is booming, with around 100 people signing up for the green leafy care packages each week.

The 420 Superstore is owned by Gavin Bagnall and John Nicholson, who opened the store in response for soaring demand for medical cannabis.

“We are brand ambassadors for Canwell which is one of the biggest medical cannabis clinics in Australia… We don’t go into a patient’s personal problems, instead we are here to help you get directions from your doctors.”

Mr Bagnall said.

Potential patients who visit the store are directed to consultation with a GP. If they qualify for a prescription, the store can source them medical cannabis products

HOW IT WORKS

Medical cannabis was legalised in late 2021, but since 2016, about 250,000 scripts for medicinal cannabis have been approved in Australia.

RISE OF MEDICAL CANNABIS

In 2021, the Therapeutic Good Administration streamlined access to medicinal cannabis. That effectively opened it up to a wider range of illnesses including anxiety, insomnia, arthritis pain, back and neck pain and nerve pain.

11.7 per cent of Australians aged 14 and over had used cannabis in 2019.

That equates to 2.7 per cent of Australians using medical cannabis.

6.8 per cent said they used it only for medical purposes.
