Simpsons child abuse material found on Wollongong pedophile Philip Byrne’s tablet

Philip Byrne has pleaded guilty to having child abuse material involving characters from The Simpsons.

An old creep who goes by “Starlight573915” on Instagram hoarded child abuse material of popular television and movie characters from The Simpson and Peter Pan.

Philip Byrne, 76, appeared in Wollongong Local Court from custody on Wednesday where he pleaded guilty to failing to comply with reporting obligations and possessing child abuse material.

Documents tendered in court state Byrne was on the child protection offenders register and required to report personal information – including online accounts – to police.

In June, 2023, the Lake Heights man reported to officers at Lake Illawarra Police Station his address, phone number and email address. He did not report any online accounts.

A month later he reported a second email address and there were no further reports before May when officers inspected his address to verify personal information.

Philip Byrne had child abuse material of Peter Pan and Tinkerbell.

Documents state police found unreported Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook and YouTube accounts on Byrne’s Nokia tablet.

Police inspected the tablet and found a Google Doc titled “Good Websites” where they found links to searches such as “schoolgirl”, “thatpervert” and “uncensoredyoung”.

Documents state the device was seized with a data download revealing 49 items of child abuse material including real-life images of naked girls under the age of five.

Philip Byrne will be sentenced in Wollongong District Court.

The download also unearthed a plethora of manipulated cartoons of characters from The Simpsons, Family Guy, Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan either naked or engaged in sex acts.

These cartoons were deemed as child abuse material given they include characters, such as Bart and Lisa Simpson, who are minors.

The offender was arrested on May 7 and has been in custody on remand ever since.

Byrne will learn his sentence date in Wollongong District Court on November 29.
