The loss of her job and a cousin to cancer triggered a 30-year-old Toowoomba woman to forge a doctor’s prescription in an attempt to obtain pain killers.

Carly Ann Brunner lost her job to the COVID lockdown and had been caring for a 35-year-old cousin who had cancer, Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard.

After her cousin died, she had tried to use a forged prescription on December 1 to obtain fentanyl but when contacted the doctor concerned said he hadn’t used that type of prescription for seven years and hadn’t prescribed the drug for months.

Brunner pleaded guilty to forgery and uttering, possessing a dangerous drug and receiving tainted property.

Her solicitor Alysha Jacobsen said her client had nothing of similar nature since 2014 and submitted probation.

Magistrate Lisa O’Neill agreed and placed Brunner on 18 months probation.
