DUSTIN Raymond John Davey was under the influence of the powerful recreational drug GHB when he took two joyrides through southeast Queensland.

The offences, from June 16 and August 2, were committed just a few weeks after the Toowoomba man was released on parole for dangerous operation of a vehicle.

The Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard yesterday that the most serious of the incidents occurred on August 2 when Davey, 27, led police on 18km chase that ended when he crashed a stolen car into a tree and fled on foot.

Police arrested Davey a short time later, cancelled his parole and returned him to jail.

Davey’s lawyer, Claire Graham, said her client was introduced to drugs as a 13-year-old and had a hard childhood.

He pleaded guilty to 10 charges, including two counts of dangerous operation of a vehicle, as a repeat offender.

Magistrate Kay Ryan ordered a head sentence of 15 months in jail, with an immediate parole eligibility date.
