Toowoomba man goes from cannabis to ice to probation order
The former Centenary Heights man had started using cannabis as a recreation drug in his early 20s but had soon moved on to other drugs, the court heard.

A 28-YEAR-OLD man who started using cannabis in his early 20s as a recreational drug but ended up on ice has been placed on probation in order to help him get away from both drugs.
Dillon Peter Hohn had unknowingly dropped a clip seal bag containing crystals onto the floor of a West St newsagency on October 1, last year, Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard.
He had been identified by the store’s CCTV cameras and an analysis of the substance found it contained 0.5g of methylamphetamine, police prosecutor Julia Wheaton said.
The Cambooya resident pleaded guilty to possessing a dangerous drug as well as to driving while disqualified and with meth and cannabis in his system on Geddes St, Centenary Heights, on February 18, and to having 3g of cannabis and an ice pipe found during a police search of his then Toowoomba home on March 20.
Duty lawyer Joe McConnell told the court his client had started using cannabis recreationally in his early 20s but had ended up on ice.
His client had a good work record since leaving school but due to COVID there had been a downturn in work and he was on benefits, he said.
His client accepted he had an issue with drugs and would consent to a period of probation which could help him, Mr McConnell submitted.
Magistrate Graham Lee placed Hohn on 12 months probation and disqualified him from holding or obtaining a driver’s licence for a total 30 months.
