A 25-YEAR-OLD man caught growing cannabis inside his North Toowoomba home has been placed on 15 months probation.

A police search of Jack D’Artagan Douglas’s Fanny St residence on the morning of October 14 had found two cannabis plants, one 1200mm and the other 150mm, growing inside a 2m x 1m growing tent set up in a spare room.

Lights and fertiliser to promote growth were also found near the tent, Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard.

The search also turned up four cannabis seeds ready for planting, 52.1g of cannabis in a bag in the kitchen and 23g of the drug in a container as well as a 5cm cannabis leaf, police prosecutor Sergeant Natalie Bugden told the court.

Granted bail from the watch house, Douglas had then failed to report to police as required on October 26, she said.

Douglas pleaded guilty to producing and possessing a dangerous drug and possessing drug related utensils.

Duty solicitor Phil Stainton told the court his client had suffered post traumatic stress disorder in the past but had been working packing vegetables in the Lockyer Valley most recently.

One of the plants found was “very small”, he submitted.

Magistrate Howard Osborne placed Douglas on 15 months probation and fined him $200 for breaching bail.
