Police recover guns, drugs in Highfields area raids

Police thanked the community for tipping off Crime Stoppers to criminal activity. That information lead to the seizure of weapons, drugs and an illegal tobacco crop.

Police recovered drugs, illegal tobacco and a shortened rifle in raids across the Highfields area.

On February 25, Highfields police together with officers from the Toowoomba Tactical Crime Squad, Crows Nest and Goombungee executed seven search warrants after tip-offs from the community, via Crime Stoppers.

A raid on a Meringandan address recovered a shortened, unregistered firearm.

As a result, a 23-year-old woman was charged with a weapons act offence, while a 32-year-old man from the same address was issued a notice to appear for unlawful possession of prescription medication.

“Shortened forearms with serial numbers removed are only used for committing offences and are a threat to the community, the police will always act on information relating to firearms offences and are very happy to have this weapon off the streets and out of the hand of criminals,” Highfield Officer-in-Charge Sergeant Stephen Gillinder said.

A juvenile was dealt with in the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.

After separate raids police charged a 45-year-old Boodua man with possession of a dangerous drug, possession of drug utensils, possess property suspected of being used in commission of a crime, and possession of explosives (fireworks).

Police charged 19-year-old Cabarlah man with possession of a dangerous drug and possession of utensils.

Raids in Crows Nest recovered drugs, drug utensils and an illegal tobacco crop leading to police charging two 21-year-old Crows Nest women and a man with drug offences.

The tobacco plants were seized from a Park Lane address and the Australian Taxation Office was notified.

Police executed a search warrant at a Lynne Court address in Highfields where they located and a small quantity of dangerous.

A juvenile was dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.

In total there were 10 offenders arrested on 14 charges.
