A RECIDIVIST offender was out of jail just one month when he returned to bad habits, Toowoomba Magistrates Court has been told.
Jamaine John Fing, 34, had 11 pages of criminal history before his latest series of crimes committed in Toowoomba earlier this year, police prosecutor Julia Wheaton said.
The most serious of his 10 latest offences for which he was pleading guilty was the burglary of a woman’s home in Toowoomba, she said.
Fing had sneaked into the woman’s unit and stole her handbag which contained her car keys and phone.
“He steals her car and ends up crashing it,” Senior Constable Wheaton told the court.
He had then left the scene of the crash.
He had also sneaked into a Child Care facility and stole $100 cash, she said.
Fing, who had spent 76 days in custody since his arrest, appeared by video link to Brisbane Men’s Prison to plead guilty to all offences.
His solicitor Joe Millican told the court his client had endured a disadvantaged childhood and had been taken from his parents and placed in a number of foster homes.
“He had no positive role models growing up,” Mr Millican submitted.
His client was in a relationship and expecting their first child but they relationship had broken down leaving Fing to couch surf and he had been staying with people who took drugs and that led to his offending, he said.
Magistrate Howard Osborne declared the 76 days pre-sentence custody as time served under the sentence and sentenced Fing to two years in jail but ordered he be released on parole as of April 5 next year after having served seven months.
Fing was ordered to pay compensation of $859 which was referred to SPER.
