A TOOWOOMBA man’s attempt to grow his own cannabis was short lived after a police search of his home put an end to his horticultural pursuits.

A police search of Zachary Wayne Alberts home on the morning of October 4 had found two cannabis plants between 30cm and 40cm in height growing there, 1.1g of chopped cannabis leaf in a bowl and a bong used for smoking the drug, Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard.

The 27-year-old single man told police he had grown the plants from seed, police prosecutor Senior Constable Julia Wheaton told the court.

Alberts pleaded guilty to producing and possessing a dangerous drug and possessing a drug related utensil.

His solicitor Michael McElhinney told the court his client instructed that the drug was for his own personal use.

His client had dated criminal history, he said.

His client was on Jobseeker and looking for work, Mr McElhinney submitted.

Magistrate Graham Lee ordered the convictions not be recorded and fined Alberts $1000.
